Monday In New Hampshire Matt Webster

Today was a heck of a day. We started the day off driving the van on empty with barely enough gas. The entire morning we kept trying to get to a gas station while driving in neutral. It was the funniest day we had had during the whole trip. In a time of stress we were able to make a lot of laughs out of it. I think it was best for the trip because it kept all of us calm and lively.
We woke up early to see Barrack Obama. I first saw this rally as a waste of time because I felt like we would not be able to meet him. The last time we went to one of his rallies we ended up waiting outside of a middle school and were not able to see him speak. So it was quite a surprise when we ended up sitting right up front and actually see him speak face to face. I still felt the same about him, believing he is a very good speaker and has a lot of charisma, but the one thing that is a little fuzzy in my mind is how he does not take questions. In his speech he told how he wants to hear what the people have to say but at each of his rallies he does not allow people to ask questions. I think that is what separates him from all the other candidates and I do not know if that will hurt him in future primaries. But I did get to meet him and I feel he is the best candidate out of the democratic race.
We ended a great day by going to see Governor Huckabee. It was quite a ride to get there. we had a couple of close calls trying to pull into a parking lot and turning the vehicles around. It really had some of us laughing till we had tears to our eyes. When we got to the place where Mike Huckabee was going to speak some of the ladies had to go to the bathroom and were not allowed in. I was a little mad because the volunteers would let other people go in but not our group.
Once inside it was quite exciting. The band called Mama-Kicks played some good songs and really liked the lady who sang. I heard Star Parker speak about why she supported Mike Huckabee and how she had risen up from welfare. I felt she was the deepest speaker that we had heard the whole trip. I felt she spoke the truth about her faith and her story of three abortions before she decided to keep her fourth pregnancy instead of getting an abortion. The big thing that I got to see was Chuck Norris. Right when he entered the crowd went wild. I pointed at him and he pointed back. It was so cool when he spoke because he made so many jokes and told so many funny stories. My favorite story was when he went to Iraq to meet the troops and they wanted a picture taken with him of choking each one of them out individually. While he had a soldier in a headlock and waiting for another soldier to take the picture, the soldier in a headlock had passed out. It was so funny and really showed how celebrities can lighten the mood and also affect the crowd for a campaign.
When Mike Huckabee came out his presence was felt. The crowd was wild and I feel he made a big view on faith and family and that is something that is rare when candidates run for office. I liked his view on immigration, lowering taxes, and education reform. He was a great speaker. At the end I didn’t get to see Chuck Norris because he left during Huckabee’s speech, but after Huckabee played the guitar with Mama-Cakes he went to meet everyone. I ended up being right behind him but I had State Troopers pushing me back. Alice had gotten in good with Mrs. Huckabee and told her that her battery was low and Mrs. Huckabee told her husband that Alice needed a picture before her camera died. Bless Alice’s heart she told Mike Huckabee that she wanted me in the picture and being the class act that he is he told the State Troopers to step aside and let me into the picture with Alice and him. That won over my vote and I thank Alice so much for thinking of me. This is what changed my opinion to vote and what made this a great day in New Hampshire.
